VARIETY PRESENTATION IN FRANCE

MEIJER has presented its seed potato varieties during the first “Meijer field day” in France. On a plot in Picardie, visitors had the chance to discover MEIJER's complete range of varieties, and compare the range with the competition.

More than forty varieties were planted by hand according to two planting schedules.

On three square plots, divided into table stock potatoes, French fry potatoes and crisp potatoes it was possible to see confirmed varieties or varieties about to be marketed on a large scale. The second section of planting, used as a reference, contained existing or competitor varieties.

These varieties could also be compared with samples of table potatoes brought from Beauce, and with another plot specifically for the industrial processing sector.
On this demo day more than 75 professionals in the sector were able to exchange their experiences with MEIJER staff members as well as, equally importantly, sampling a delicious portion of French fries of the Lady Anna variety, served up by a stand in the middle of the fields!

Certain varieties, such as Musica, Melody, Orchestra, Jazzy and Lady Anna, have proven their ability to adapt to different soil types.
