News February 2008
This year C.Meijer B.V. sponsors, among others, De Schouwen-Duiveland Runners for their participation at the Roparun.
Roparun is the abbreviation of Rotterdam-Paris-Run. The Roparun, the longest non-stop relay race in the world, starts in Paris and finishes in Rotterdam. This unique long-distance race through France, Belgium and The Netherlands (covering more than 500 kilometres over 48 hours) has the same unique aim: trying to improve as much as possible the quality of life of people with cancer.
The team of Schouwen-Duiveland Runners will participate this year for the 7th successive time in the Roparun. And just like previous years their most important aim is to raise as much money as possible for cancer patients.
The start of the 17th edition is in Paris on the 10th and 11th of May 2008. The finish is on the 12th of May 2008 (2nd day of Pentecost) at the Coolsingel in Rotterdam. This year 259 teams will participate, a record number.
The team Schouwen-Duiveland Runners starts in Paris on Saturday the 10th of May 2008 around midnight. The finish is Monday afternoon on the 12th of May at the Coolsingel in Rotterdam. The distance of 536 kilometres is divided into 'blocks' of 65 kilometres. Within the team two teams are formed (4 runners, 3 bikers, 1 driver and 1 physio per team) When team 1 is running, team 2 has a rest. The biker is the map-reader and makes sure that the runner follows the right route.
With this extreme sport performance Roparunners raise money for cancer patients. In order to realise the run and to raise as much as possible for charity all teams are looking for sponsors. Sponsors in the financial, as well as the material, sense. The proceeds will be used to improve the quality of life of cancer patients. The Schouwen-Duiveland Runners have raised in the past years € 172.500,- for the Stichting Roparun. A total of € 3.736.160,- has been raised in 2007 by the Roparun.
Roparun is more than just running: it is an adventuress experience. It’s a unique sports event in which healthy people raise money to improve the quality of life of cancer patients.

The support of the Stichting Roparun is unique because of the fact that the organisation doesn’t just give money, but judges all projects and only then assists. This way one avoids money going to the wrong place and to be sure that the support justifies the motto:
Try to add life to the days,
where no days can be added to life!!
