Harvest 2010
Driving through the Zealand Flanders region in the second week of May gives a varied picture. While some growers already have the last seed tubers ready to be transported to East Europe, others only have empty crates in the yard.

The picture is not any different in the fields. The crops on plots that were planted the earliest are just emerging. It’s a slow process. This plot of Melody was planted in the 3rd week of March. The low temperatures in recent weeks have not created the best conditions for growth. Hopefully this will change soon, but the temperature today is only 7 degrees (12-05-2010).

A little further away, a field is being worked with a cultivator. The best time to do this is after a shower, so work is progressing at a good pace. Many growers are taking advantage of this opportunity; planting has already been done on most farms. However, we still saw one grower planting a final plot. The new harvest of 2010 is already in the soil! Now we have to wait and see what it brings us.
