Demo Day at the Rusthoeve in Colijnsplaat
While the weather in Eastern Europe is rather turbulent, we in the Netherlands and surrounding countries are enjoying stable, dry conditions.
The continuous dry weather has led to many differences between potato varieties in the fields. In most potato fields the rows are still clearly visible. A tour of various fields showed that some plants have produced large numbers of tubers, but it may be assumed that this dry weather will cause many small tubers to drop off.
The effects of the drought were also clearly visible at the Demo Day that was held at the Rusthoeve in Colijnsplaat on 23 June. The stable weather meant that growers were also able to visit the Demo Day. Judging from visitors’ reactions at the Rusthoeve, the day was a success; the trials attracted between 2000 and 2500 visitors.
At the Rusthoeve, Meijer has a trial field with existing and new varieties divided into the categories table potatoes and potatoes intended for chips and crisps.

The Rusthoeve has started testing different varieties.
