New season at Meijer’s breeding station

Spring has finally arrived after a long, cold winter. The temperature is rising, the rays of sunshine are stronger, the soil is gradually drying out and turning grey, our employees are starting to experience spring fever; “When can we go outdoors again……..?” The time is fast approaching.

This is the general picture at our breeding station in Rilland, where after a winter full of preparation the seedlings that are the result of our breeding programmes are all ready and waiting to be planted out according to schedule in the trial fields in Rilland, the Noordoostpolder and outside the Netherlands.

The varieties are exposed to various climate conditions, different soil types. Varieties produced by Meijer first have to pass all these tests before they deserve the name of a variety. Which ones will be successful this year?

Which will be the fantastic, strong new varieties such as Musica, Orchestra, Melody, Lady Lenora and Lady Anna? Which new varieties will be victorious this season?

We look forward to a fine growing season in 2010!
