Variety Exhibition 2009

Holland is the global centre of the potato trade, that was clear at the variety exhibition on November 5th and 6th. The surrounding area of Emmeloord, especially, saw the arrival of many people with different nationalities.

This year, the varieties of C Meijer B.V. were exhibited at our new site, at the Verlengde Gildenweg in Emmeloord.

Potato varieties will continue to become more durable as we move in to the future. Growers will pay closer attention to resistance against potato cyst nematode, synchytrium endobioticum, phytophthora, secondary growth and fungus. A variety should be grown under stressed conditions. Certainly, this can be seen in the characteristics shown by the new varieties.

Already four years ago, C. Meijer B.V. presented a number of new varieties. For the fresh food segment: Musica, Orchestra, Soprano and for French fries: Lady Blanca and Lady Amarilla. A few years ago, Bionica was added as a biologically cultivated potato. Moreover, this year, we once again have the opportunity to add a few new candidates to our portfolio. For crisps the Lady Lenora, for French fries the Lady Anna, and for the salad/fresh segment Jazzy and Murato.

"Production reliability at minimal costs" – could be taken as the slogan for future years.

Responsibility for the future lies in feeding the world, and to achieve this, the potato has its place. The key for this is, trust and honesty in business relations.
